once upon a time on my now defunct twitter account i posted a screenshot of all of the "I Been Young" project variants. there were dozens of them all with crazy long filenames. i thought it was funny. someone noticed for a time part of the filename was "underwater bitch" and then it phased out. they reply tweeted "rip underwater bitch" and it made me laugh. This is that file.
I knew there was an excellent song hidden in the I Been Young elements that I had, but I had to keep chipping away at it until i found it. Part of that journey was thinking that the Ooh Rap I Ya album might be this echoey aquatic album with maximalist percussion. in some ways, it remained that way. but this was the idea behind this version of the song in particular. i think it sounds cool, but it didnt inspire the hook. ultimately something much more like the finished version inspired the hook "wrong enough to say im sorry owning up to things i cant undo"
i hope you enjoy this little bit of music.
